Nancy Knudsen was born in Queensland, and spent the first few years of her working life in the television industry, as an announcer, compere and producer, winning two Logie awards for her work, which was principally for BTQ Channel 7 in Brisbane. In 1976, she founded travel company Sydney Express and since then has built up and sold a number of companies in the tourism industry.

In 1984, she founded Aircruising Australia, a specialist airline which she floated the on the main board of the Sydney Stock Exchange in July 1986. For many years Nancy was the only female Chair of a public company in Australia.

Nancy has won numerous awards including Business Sydney's "Chief Executive of the Year for 1997," Telstra Business Owner of the Year Award 1998, as well as being inducted into ABN's Businesswomen's Hall of Fame in 1999.
