Tatiana Grigorieva
  Tatiana Grigorieva
Olympic Silver Medallist & Commonwealth Games Champion

Profile:

In what is now clearly her best ever European season, Tatiana has jumped 2 new personal best heights of 4.57m and 4.58m in Yokohama and Korea respectively 5 years and nearly days apart to the day since she recorded her previous personal best. She is now ranked at number 10 in the world.

It shows an amazing effort on Tatiana's part to have had such a rewarding season after undergoing a horror run these past few years. Obstacles tackled by tatiana include a marriage break-up, missing the Athens Olympic team, her poles disappearing and a nagging injury on the eve of the Commonwealth Games. Not to mention a number of medals being stolen.

A former national level 400m hurdler in Russia, Tatiana took up the pole vault after she migrated to Australia in 1997. Within 12 months of picking up a pole, she had become one of the world's best, placing 3rd in the Goodwill Games in '98. At the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Tatiana came away with best performance, a personal best jump earning her a 'celebrity status'. In the inaugural women's pole vault event, she won silver with 4.55m. At her first Commonwealth Games in 2002, she went into the competition as favourite. Her goal - to win gold and jump a Games record - she achieved both.
