Get on Board
22 June 2011
An insight into the boardroom for women considering leadership positions.
It's no secret that the number of women on boards in Australia lags behind that in other developed countries. Yet, balancing out the gender imbalance takes women making themselves available and ready for board positions. But, is the boardroom for you?
Joining a board is seen as a sign that you have 'made it'; board members are the elite of the business world.
Directors are respected for their experience and sought after for their insights; they hold the most highly esteemed part-time jobs available anywhere on our planet. They operate in a high stakes environment where unlimited personal liability exists even in the absence of personal culpability.
But what does it take to become a director? How do you go about applying for the role and, when it is offered, how do you assess the risks? Can women access the boardroom and are they taken seriously when they get there?
We've invited governance expert Julie Garland McLellan to present a one-hour webinar to help you determine if the boardroom is an option for your own development.
This presentation will dispel the popular myths and provide you with the practical information you need to decide whether, how and when to enter the boardroom.
During the Get On Board webinar, we'll look at:
- Would you, could you, should you join a board?
- How boards operate - the ins and outs
- The benefits of being on a board
- Assessing your board potential
- How to get board-ready
- Using your experience to strategically position you for a board role
