Amy Lyden is an entrepreneur and a specialist in online businesses and communities. Amy is passionate about the social economy and provides consulting to nonprofit organisations. She believes that nonprofit organisations are able to have significant reach and influence through their Internet presence.
Amy currently is CEO of Australian Scholarships Foundation, an organisation that facilitates scholarships for education and training for people who work in the nonprofit sector.
Amy grew up in Las Vegas in the US and studied Marketing at the University of Nevada. In her early career, Amy worked in senior management roles in the travel and hospitality industries in the US, Canada and Australia.
In 1995 Amy launched her company Bow Wow Meow after failing to find beautiful ID tags for her two kittens and shortly after won the "Best New Product" Award at the annual trade show. After 12 years and growing the business to 2000 distribution outlets and selling online to over 80 countries around the world, Amy sold Bow Wow Meow in 2007. The main site www.bowwow.com.au still is the #1 ranking site on Google and attracts over 4 million visitors annually.
Amy has won numerous business awards including the 2006 NSW Telstra Business Women�s Awards for Innovation, 2002 National Telstra Small Business Award and 2000 Micro Business of the Year. Amy was also selected as the Winner of the Leading Women Entrepreneurs of the World Grant for 2004, an International organisation that assists female entrepreneurs.
Amy is an Ambassador for the Australian Businesswomen�s Network (ABN) and served on their Advisory Board from 2003 to 2006, her last role being Chairperson. Amy also has been a mentor for other women in business. In 2003 Amy was selected to be on the Commonwealth Small Business Council, an initiative set up by the Federal Minister for Small Business to address issues and provide possible solutions to issues confronting small business in Australia. She served on this council until 2006.
