Grocery shopping over the internet
By Karen Scott
Grocery shopping over the internet has taken off in the
United Kingdom over the past two years with around 80% of the country's
working women buying their groceries online. This trend is taking off
in Australia and a recent survey by www.consult has shown that 75% of
local internet users expect to purchase their groceries online by December
1999.
The convenience of shopping for your everyday grocery items
online is being offered by several innovative Australian companies. This
month Training Net looks at Kilmartin's and MyGrocer websites www.kilmartins.com.au
Anne Kilmartin of Kilmartin's Grocery Service has been running her grocery
and delivery website for almost 12 months and has found it to be invaluable
to her business.
Kilmartin's target audience is working couples and working
women. The site has a simple, easy to navigate layout and ordering is
handled by sending an email with your requests to the site. All payment
and credit card details are currently handled offline. Delivery extends
to the metropolitan Melbourne area, although with demand rapidly growing,
Anne is considering expanding the service.
Kilmartin's provides incentives such as movie tickets to
valued customers for orders over $100. Anne Kilmartin's advice to others
is "to set up a website and KEEP IT SIMPLE. Make the site uncluttered
and easy to download."
www.mygrocer.com.au
MyGrocer is an online supermarket that delivers non-perishable,
quality brand groceries to your door. It offers competitive pricing and
a minimal delivery charge. The site is easy to use and prices can be found
quickly.
Once an account has been set up, food can be ordered online
and payment is made by credit card over a secure connection. MyGrocer
is clean, simple and easy to understand. One incentive MyGrocer has offered
recently is that of free delivery.
